Lambert Vineyards

Lambert Vineyards is a family owned winery and vineyards producing award winning premium quality wines. Only 30km northwest of Canberra, the winery is nestled in the rolling hills of Wamboin, NSW. Situated at the crest of one of the many hills, the winery is 810 metres above sea level, providing for true "cool climate" wine growing as well as spectacular views. From humble beginnings with a small plot of 6 rows of vines in 1991, Lambert Vineyards has grown to eighteen acres of producing vines. Eighteen acres surround the winery and cafe, and the remaining four are located in Tallagandra, north of the winery. To supplement their own grapes, the Lamberts acquire premium grapes from other Canberra producers, yielding approximately 90 tonnes of grapes. To ensure quality, all grapes are hand picked. Husband and wife team Steve and Ruth Lambert are the winemakers and operators. After planting the first vines in 1991, they returned to university and studied winemaking and viticulture at Charles Sturt University in Wagga to perfect their new trade. In the fifteen years since they started, they have continued to hone their skills and improve the quality of their wines. Their ability to consistently win awards at wine competitions is a testament to their skill. Today their range of premium wines includes Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Rose, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. Steve and Ruth are committed to the production of quality, flavoursome wines. Their wines are noted for having complex flavours and aromas, and distinctive regional characteristics. Steve and Ruth enjoy the challenge of winemaking and the variations that different vintage conditions demand of them. Production is approximately 60% red varieties and 40% white varieties. Their vines are typically low yielding and provide distinctive varietal flavours and aromas. The current winery has been open for just over three years, prior to which, wines were made in a simple shed. New higher output equipment matched to the growth and demand for the wine has proven successful, and allowed Lambert Vineyards wine to be enjoyed throughout the world. The winery features an elegant cellar door overlooking the large barrel room, which holds approximately 250 barrels. Several different coopers supply these high quality French oak barrels. A mixture of new and old barrels is utilized to infuse the most flavour and aroma into the wine. Most reds will mature for approximately 20 months in the oak barrels prior to bottling. The new winery also includes a first class cafe, where new Chef Dean McCrae is creating delectable meals to match the great wine. Contact Number: 02 62383866
