Bourke NSW NSW Country

Bourke prospers as the centre of a large cotton, wool and citrus growing area. With a population of some 3500, the town may never have been at all if explorer Charles Sturt had had any say in the matter, having described the area in 1828 as 'unlikely to become the haunt of civilised man'.
