Bathurst NSW NSW Country

Bathurst is the oldest inland town in Australia but probably more famous as national centre for car racing enthusiasts, with the Bathurst 1000 held each year in ?? It is also a regional service centre for the NSW Central West and home to one of the campuses of the Charles Sturt University.

Bathurst is the birthplace of former Labor Prime Minister Ben Chifley. His childhood home, on Busby Street, is now a museum.

Bathurst's economy was transformed by the discovery of gold in 1851. It later became the centre of an important coal-mining and manufacturing region.
