Founded by Captain Mark Currie, Major John Ovens and Joseph Wild who camped near the site of what is now the Tuggeranong Homestead , the area of Isabella Plains was named in honour of Isabella Maria Brisbane (1821-1849) the infant daughter of Sir Thomas Brisbane, Governor of New South Wales from 1821-1825. The three men were on a government funded expedition in search of good grazing land and with the hope of extending the limits of civilisation.
